Super Mario Run coming soon to Android, Pre-registration opens on Google Play

Nintendo's highly-anticipated Super Mario Run mobile game was finally available for download on iOS devices on December 15, while an Android version was promised to be released soon.

Now it appears that Super Mario Run will soon make its way to Android. The game is up for pre-registration on the Google Play Store. This does not mean the game is available for download now, but you'll be notified when it is available for download.

For those unaware, Super Mario Run is an endless runner game that can be played with just one hand to guide Mario through the levels to rescue the princess Peach from Bowser’s clutches. 

It includes three game modes ― World Tour, Toad Rally and Kingdom Builder 一 in which you have to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies, collect coins & toads to unlock items, capture flagpole to complete level, compete against friends, build kingdom and more. The game clocked record 40 million downloads in just four days of its release.

The iOS version of Super Mario Run was free to download, but players had access to only the first three level. To unlock additional levels, they had to make an in-app purchase of $99.99 or Rs. 620. It's likely that the same pricing model will come to Android as well.

Samsung Galaxy A3, A5 (2017) press image surfaces ahead of January 5 unveiling

Samsung has already confirmed that the company will unveil the Galaxy A 2017 line up on January 5. Now ahead of the official announcement press images of Galaxy A3 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2017) has hit the interwebs.

The press image reveals that Samsung has made minor changes to the design of the 2017 Galaxy A line up and looks almost similar to Galaxy S7. They will be IP68 rated for water and dust resistance, and come in black, gold, blue and pink colors.

The Galaxy A3 (2017) is said to carry a price of 379 Euros (Rs. 27,000), and the Galaxy A5 (2017) is expected to cost 479 Euros (Rs. 30,000). There's also a third member, Galaxy A7 (2017), but there is no press images available yet.

Android Nougat based OxygenOS Open Beta 10 out for OnePlus 3

OnePlus has released third beta build based on Android Nougat for the OnePlus 3. The Open Beta 10 is now rolling out to the OnePlus 3 which adds data saver option and brings several optimizations along with bug fixes.

Here's the full list of changes from OnePlus:

Moreover, once your device is on the beta build you will receive only Open Beta OTAs in the future and not official OTAs. Incase you want to get official OTAs, you will have to manually (clean) flash back to an official build. This process will also require wiping data and cache on your device.

The official Android Nougat based Oxygen OS update is expected to roll out to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T anytime soon, as OnePlus has promised to roll out the update before end of this year.

LG intros TONE Studio wearable speakers and TONE Free wireless earbuds

After introducing the futuristic looking levitating Bluetooth speaker, LG has expanded its range of audio products with a pair of new wireless audio wearable devices ― TONE Studio wearable speakers (HBS-W120) and TONE Free earphones (HBS-F110).

The LG TONE Studio wearable speaker is capable of delivering amazing 3D surround sound thanks to the four speakers setup that is built into the wearable– two on top and two vibrating on the bottom – to offer users with surround sound experience when watching movie, streaming music or while playing video game. The sound have been designed in collaboration with surround experts at DTS to provide realistic theater-like sound for a cinematic experience.

It features Hi-Fi DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) promising enhanced sound quality by recreating audio content as accurately as possible, says LG. Additionally, it also feature Dual Play functionality, which lets you connect two LG TONE Studio wearable speakers and share the sound from  audio or video playback.

The LG TONE Free earphone on the other is a pair of wireless earbuds and is accompanied by a neckband, where you can securely place the earbuds when they are note in use. The neckband provides vibration alerts for incoming calls and text messages for hands-free experience.

In addition the neckband can also be used to charge the earbuds, when they are docked, making them easy to carry. There's also an optional charging cradle which offers more juice at times when the neckband might not be convenient.

Details like battery life in offer, pricing and availability were not disclosed. LG will showcase TONE Studio and TONE Free wearable devices along with couple other Bluetooth headset at CES 2017 from January 5 to January 8 in Las Vegas.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X with Snapdragon 653 reportedly in the works

A couple of Xiaomi devices have leaked over the past few days ―  Mi Pad 3 and Mi S ―, both turned out to be fake, while we still wait for confirmation of Mi 5C leak, details of a new Xiaomi device have hit the interweb.

According to a report coming out of China, Xiaomi is working on a new variant of Redmi Note 4 alledgedly called Redmi Note 4X, and will arrive with upgraded hardware.

One of the main difference between Redmi Note 4 and Note 4X is the processor. The Redmi Note 4 was powered by MediaTek Helio X20 chip, whereas the Redmi Note 4X will reportedly feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 653 processor. It will pack 4GB RAM and will be available in 32GB and 64GB storage options.

There's no word regarding Redmi Note 4X's other specs, however, we can expect the rest of the hardware to be more or less identical to the Redmi Note 4, which comes with 5.5-inch Full HD display, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, fingerprint scanner and 4100mAh battery. A leaked screenshot reveals that Redmi Note 4X runs MIUI 8.1, which is most likely to be based on Android Marshmallow.

The rumored pricing of the Redmi Note 4X is CNY 1299 ($180 | Rs. 13,000) and the launch is expected soon in China.

Xiaomi will launch the Redmi Note 4 in India in January next year, so we can expect this version to arrive in the country, since Xiaomi is barred from selling MediaTek powered devices in the country. The same was the case with Redmi Note 3, it was initially launched with MediaTek processor, but before Indian release, a Snapdragon version was launched.

Samsung Galaxy A 2017 teaser hints at water resistant design

Update : Samsung has officially confirmed that Galaxy A 2017 line up will launch on January 5, 2017 in Kuala Lampur

Following months of rumors and speculations, Samsung has finally confirmed that the 2017 edition Galaxy A line up is on the way.

The South Korean tech giant has released a teaser image that says "It all begins with A. Hold your breath", while highlighting the letter A  teasing the Galaxy A line up. The teaser image also reveals one of the key features of 2017 Galaxy A line up - IP67 certification for dust and water resistance.

The Galaxy A series brings the premium design of Samsung's Galaxy S series flagship at a budget by offering mid-range specs.  

The Galaxy A 2016 line up had a metal and glass design, almost similar to the flagship Galaxy S6. So we expect the Galaxy A 2017 edition design to be similar to Galaxy S7 which is also IP68 rated.

Samsung will most likely introduce 2017 edition of Galaxy A3, A5, A7 and A8 at CES 2017  in Las Vegas, which takes place between January 5 and January 8.

Nexus 6 will get Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in early January 2017

Google rolled out Android 7.1.1 Nougat to Pixel devices, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9 and Android One devices earlier this month. Unfortunately the Nexus 6 was left behind. Now Google has given a time frame and the reason for delay of Android 7.1.1 for Nexus 6.

Google in a statement to Android police said that, the company encountered a 'last minute' bug for the Nexus 6, and had to delay the roll out. The issue has now been fixed and the update is ready to roll out to Nexus 6 owners in early January.

The Nexus 6 has already been updated to Nougat but 7.1.1 update is significant as it brings additional features like circular icons, GIF keyboard support, app shortcuts (Google's take on Apple's Force Touch), security patch for December and more.

The Nexus 6 is  the oldest Nexus device supported for the Android update, since it was released in November 2014. There is a possibility that Android 7.1.1 Nougat could be the last major update for the smartphone. However, it will most likely continue to get monthly security patches.

Four Nokia-branded smartphones will reportedly launch during Q2 and Q3 2017

HMD Global, the new home of Nokia devices has already confirmed that the company will out the first batch of Nokia-branded Android devices in the first half of 2017. The company already launched its first handset, which a feature phone called Nokia 150.

Now a report coming out of Taiwan citing industry sources suggest that HMD Global will launch its first Nokia-branded smartphone (most likely the D1C) at MWC 2017 in February next year, followed by four more smartphones during Q2 and Q3 of 2017.

The four new models will sport display sizes ranging from 5- to 5.5-inches with Full HD or Quad HD resolution. The display panels will be supplied by LG Display, Century Technology and Innolux, and FIH Mobile will be manufacturing the devices. 

The report also reveals some of details of Nokia D1C. It is said to be available in two version depending on RAM and display size. The lower end model will cost $150 (Rs. 10,000) and will feature 5-inch Full HD display and 2GB RAM, while the high end model will cost $200 (Rs. 13,500) and come with 5.5-inch Full HD display and 3GB RAM.

According to rumors, Nokia D1C will pack Snapdragon 430 processor, 32GB internal storage, 16MP or 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and run Android 7.0 Nougat.

Cool 1 with 13MP dual cameras, 4000mAh battery launched in India at Rs. 13,999

Back in August LeEco and Coolpad collaborated to launch the Cool1 Dual in China. Now Coolpad aggressively targeting at the mid-range market has launched the Cool 1 with dual-rear cameras in India for Rs. 13,999. At this price, it is the most affordable dual-rear camera phone available in the country.

The dual rear camera setup on Cool 1 is a dual 13MP unit, which offers depth sensing with realistic bokeh. It also boasts dual-tone LED flash PDAF, f/2.0 aperture and 4K recording. For selfie, there's 8MP front shooter with f/2.2 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.

The Cool 1 sports a premium metal unibody design measuring at 152 x 74.8 x 8.2mm and weighs in at 167g.

Coming to the other specs, the Cool 1 has 5.5-inch Full HD Gorilla Glass 3 display, octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage (non-expandable). Connectivity duties are handled by dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type-C.

It is fueled by a beefy 4000mAh battery supported by fast charging and includes a fingerprint scanner at the back. Software-wise, it boots Android Marshmallow.

The Cool 1 will be available exclusively on Amazon India starting January 5, 2017 in Gold or Silver hues.

LG G6 render reveals no sign of modular design

The LG G5 was one of most interesting smartphone of 2016, sporting an innovative semi-modular design. Even though the G5 got lots of praise, it failed to take off and sales were disappointing. One of the problem with the LG G5 was that whenever you had to swap the modular accessories, a restart was needed.

Multiple reports in the past have claimed that LG will ditch the modular approach for its upcoming flagship G6, in favor of a sleeker looks. Now renders of LG G6 have surfaced courtesy of Gear in collaboration with Onleaks, revealing the design.

As seen in the render, LG G6 will have a design similar to G5 carrying forward the dual-rear camera setup and rear-mounter fingerprint scanner. However, the modular element is missing in the design, as there is no indication of any detachable parts on the G6. Other details seen in the render are USB Type-C port, metal frame, and thankfully the 3.5mm jack is still there. 

So far, the rear panel of LG's flagship devices was removable, but according to Gear India, the rear panel of LG G6 may not be removable. Moreover, the rear panel is said to be made of "highly reflective metallic material" and will sport a glossy or matte finish.

The LG G6 will reportedly feature 5.3-inch Quad HD display, similar to G5, but will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor and support wireless charging. The dimensions of LG G6 are 148.8mm x 72.3mm x 8.3mm.

LG is expected to unveil the LG G6 at MWC 2017 in February next year.

5-inch iPhone with vertical dual-rear cameras reportedly planned for 2017

Apple's 2017 iPhones have been regular visitors to the rumor mill. Even before the launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus we have been hearing murmurs about what to expect from next year's iPhone. Adding to all these speculations is a new report coming out of Japan, which reveals details of a new 5-inch iPhone model planned for next year.

According to report from Japanese news outlet Mac Okatara, Apple may unveil a new 5-inch iPhone model with dual-camera setup in 2017. The 5-inch model is will be the third model of iPhone 7s lineup and is said to sit in between the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models.

The dual-camera system on iPhone 7s will be in a vertical alighment instead of horizontal found on the current iPhone 7 Plus model. However it is not clear if iPhone 7s Plus will have the same camera design.

The report citing sources from Taiwanese supplier also claims that the 5-inch iPhone will be identical to iPhone 7s/7s Plus in terms of specifications and retain the same aluminum design as the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This is in line with an earlier report by Nikkei, which suggested that new 5-inch iPhone would arrive next year. Moreover, the 2017 iPhones will reportedly come in an all-new Red hue.

The new report coming out of Japan, also claims that the inclusion of the 5-inch iPhone model is not confirmed as of now, and Apple will make a final decision by March 2017.

Apple is rumored to be working on ten prototypes of iPhone so there have been conflicting reports till now creating lots of confusion.

Multiple reports have suggested Apple will launch three iPhones next year. Another iPhone model being rumored is iPhone 8 code-named Ferrari, which is expected to arrive with major design change including extremely slim bezels, OLED display, glass casing and support wireless charging

There is a still a lot of time before Apple will officially unveil their new iPhones, and Apple's plans for upcoming iPhones can change anytime so take this report with a pinch of salt.

LG will showcase levitating Bluetooth speaker with 360-degree sound at CES 2017

LG has announced that it will showcase a futuristic levitating portable wireless speaker (model PJ9) at CES 2017 that can float in mid-air. It has an 'eye-catching' design according to LG and promises to deliver high-quality audio.

The 360-degree omni-directional speaker is designed to hover in place over its Levitation Station. It levitates in the air, thanks to the powerful electromagnets, which are housed within the Levitation Station, to create magnetic field for the floating technology.

There's a sub-woofer system embedded inside the Levitation Station which promises to deliver deep bass.The speaker also boasts dual passive radiator technology to produce flush mid-range tones and crisp highs for enhanced sound quality. 

On a single charge, the speaker can run for up to 10 hours, and incase it runs out of juice, it automatically descends to the Levitation Station, and begin to start charging wirelessly without interrupting music playback

The speaker features Multi-point technology that enables the speaker to connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. It is also IP67 rated, which means you can use it under water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter.

TENAA certifies Samsung Galaxy C5 Pro and Galaxy C7 Pro

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy 'C' series smartphones Galaxy C5 Pro and Galaxy C7 Pro have been certified by China's TENAA revealing the spec sheet and product shots. However some specs of Galaxy C5 Pro like processor, camera details have not been listed, but these can be expected to be similar to Galaxy C7 Pro.

As seen in the images, the Galaxy C5 Pro and C7 Pro will have premium metal body design, new antenna design like Galaxy C9 Pro with three slim lines across the top and bottom and a physical home button that will include the fingerprint sensor.

According to TENAA, the Galaxy C5 Pro will have 5.2-inch Full HD AMOLED display, 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor with Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. MicroSD card slot is present for storage expansion. In the camera department there's 16MP camera on the front and back. Battery capacity is 3000mAh.

The Galaxy C7 Pro on the other hand will have a bigger 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and a slightly bigger 3300mAh battery. Other specs are similar to that of Galaxy C5 Pro.

Both smartphones will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and include hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC  and fingerprint scanner.

Since the smartphone have received TENAA's green signal for release, an official announcement can be expected soon.

Nokia D1, D1C, E1 surface in leaked images

Next year, Nokia in partnership with HMD Global will return to the smartphone market with new Android devices. Already a number of live images, renders as well as specs of upcoming Nokia devices (one of them D1C) have leaked. 

Now images of Nokia D1C, along with a new device called Nokia D1 and E1 have hit the interwebs. Note that there is no way confirm the authenticity of these images, or if such device exist, so take these reports with a pinch of salt.

As seen in the image, the Nokia will E1 will have capacitive keys on the front for navigation, while the Nokia D1 and D1C will have  physical home button (which could house the fingerprint sensor) with capacitive keys on either side for navigation. Nokia branding is also visible on all the devices.

The Nokia D1 could be a variant of D1C and will also sport a physical home button which will have the fingerprint sensor baked in.

According to earlier rumors, Nokia D1C will come in two version - The first variant will feature 5-inch Full HD display, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and 13MP rear camera. The second model will have 5.5-inch Full HD display, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and 16MP rear camera. Both will feature 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505 GPU, 8MP selfie camera and run Android 7.0 Nougat. Unfortunately the specs of Nokia E1 is not known.

Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 press render and specs leaked

Samsung is likely to unveil it 2017 edition of Galaxy A series — Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 — anytime soon, one can expect at CES 2017. We have heard a number of rumors of these phones, as well seen possible renders.

Now alleged press image of Galaxy A5 2017 has hit the interweb along with specs and pricing. The new image reveal that Galaxy A5 2017 will be available in four color options — pink, black, blue and gold.

The leak suggests that Galaxy A5 2017 will feature 5.2-inch Full HD display enacased in a 7.8mm body. It will be equipped with 1.9GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 7880 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 16MP camera on front and back and a 3000mAh battery. The software version is not mentioned, but the entire 2017 edition of A series will most  likely ship with Android Marshmallow. It is also rumored to get IP68 certified case, which means the phone will be water and dust resistant.

The Galaxy A5 2017 will reportedly be priced around CNY 2699 ($390 | Rs. 26,300).

Black Pearl Samsung Galaxy S7 edge launched in India, available from December 30

The Pink Gold Galaxy S7 edge went on sale in India recently, and now Samsung has again launched a new color variant of the popular flagship in the country.

The Black Pearl variant of Galaxy S7 edge, which was unveiled earlier this month will be available in India starting December 30 for Rs. 56,990. The price is Rs. 6,000 higher than the other color models as Black Pearl variant comes with 128GB storage instead of 32GB found on others.

As a promotional offer, Samsung India is offering the new Gear VR headset at a discounted price of Rs. 1,990, plus you can also avail one-tome screen replacement offer for Rs. 990.

According to Samsung the Black Pearl Galaxy S7 edge was designed to be "modern and striking. The sleek black finish blankets the entire device – edges and all – and adds depth to its glass design. The result is a stylish all-black aesthetic that captures the essence of the color in its purest form."

With the addition of the new color, the Galaxy S7 edge is now available in the country in six colors ― Gold Titanium, Silver Titanium, Blue Coral, Black Pearl and Black Onyx. There's also a White Pearl color variant, but it is yet to be available.

New report again claims bigger 6-inch Galaxy S8 on the way

Last month a report suggested that Samsung Galaxy S8 will arrive in two variants 5.7-inch display and a bigger 6.2-inch display carrying model number SM-G950 and SM-G955 respectivley.

Now a new report coming out of South Korea suggests the same, but claims the smaller model Galaxy S8 will feature 5-inch display, whereas the bigger model, Galaxy S8 Plus may have a 6-inch display. Both will have dual-edge curved screens. The report also claims that Samsung has already ordered parts for the two phones with the aforementioned sizes.

Despite having a bigger 6-inch display, the overall phone size of Galaxy S8 Plus will be same as Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy Note7. For this Samsung will minimize the bezel and ditch the home button to maximize space for the display, while retaining the dual-curved edges. If this is true, we can expect the Galaxy S8 Plus to look like Xiaomi's Mi MIX.

In line with earlier report, the new report says that  Samsung will launch the Galaxy S8 family in April at an event in New York instead of MWC 2017.

Xiaomi outs budget Mi Piston Fresh earphones, Mi Heaphone in China

Xiaomi has expanded it audio products portfolio with the launch of two affordable audio accessories, Mi Piston Fresh earphone and Mi Headphone in China.

The Mi Piston Fresh earphones sports an aluminum body, and comes in several colors including Pink, Blue, Purple, Black and Silver. It features third generation noise cancellation, a built-in microphone and button for answeing calls and controlling volume on the go. The microphone and button works only with Android devices, and now with iOS devices.

The new Mi Headphone has a PU leather material in the earmuffs and silicon material on the inside, making it skin friendly. It sports a sound chamber design to eliminate outside noise and features built-in damping damping system, which helps in reducing distortion and absorbing of internal acoustic waves on the diaphragm. The headphones also gets Japan Hi-Res Audio high-quality audio product standard certification.

It comes in Mint, Orange and White colors, and features touch control for call and music playback on the left side of the headphone as well as built-in microphone.

The Mi Piston Fresh earphone is priced at CNY 29 ($4 | Rs. 289) and the the Mi Headphones are priced at CNY 199 ($28 | Rs. 1,900) and are now available in China.

The Moto Z is now receiving Android Nougat in India. The new system update upgrades the Moto Z to version NPL25.85-15 and adds support for Daydream platform making it compatible with Google's Daydream View VR headset.

Nougat update for Moto Z is an OTA update and is around 1.4GB in size. Users who get the update notification can tap on "Yes, I'm in" to download the update, and once that is complete you'll be prompted to install it. You can also check for the update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates.

Besides Daydream support, Nougat for Moto Z adds productivity features like  multi-window view, that allows you to run two apps side by side; Quick switch between apps by double tapping on the overview /recent aps button and Work Mode, which allows users to turn off the phone's work apps when not at work.

The update also includes performance improvements, enhanced battery life, lock screen wallpaper support, new emoji, Android security patch until November, 1, 2016 and more.

Cyanogen will shutdown services on December 31, CyanogenMod will live on as Lineage

Cyanogen's grand plan of taking Android away from Google has failed. The company has announced that it is shutting down all of its services and discontinuing Cyanogen-supported nightly builds by end on the month. 

"As part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen, all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued no later than 12/31/16. The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally," the company said in a blog post.

This means that all Cyanogen-based smartphones like OnePlus One, Yu Yureka, Lenovo Z1, Wileyfox handsets to name a few, will no longer get any further update (bug fixes, security updates, improvements and more) starting January, 1, 2017.

Moreover, the community driven CyanogenMod will also shutdown. However, the team behind the ROM plans to fork the existing CyanogenMod source code and relaunch it as a new Android based operating system called Lineage, though is not clear when it will be released.

According to the CyanogenMod team, Lineage "will return to the grassroots community effort that used to define CM (CyanogenMod) while maintaining the professional quality and reliability you have come to expect more recently." 

The announcement comes just days after it was reported that Cyanogen Inc. will be shutting down its headquarter in Seattle and layoff employees. Moreover the company also parted ways with founder Steve Kondik.

Cyanogen OS came into the lime lights in a short span, thanks to its partnership with OnePlus for OnePlus One. The aim of the OS was to give users more control of their device by offering high customization options as well as to increase the overall performance of the system. 

However, the relationship with OnePlus went south, when Cyanogen signed an exclusive deal with Indian smartphone maker Micromax, for using Cyanogen OS in Micromax's Yu device. But the deal with Micromax ended earlier this year, when Lenovo launched the ZUK Z1 in India.
